What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient healing technique which works on the principle that different points on the feet, ankles and hands (reflex points) correspond with different areas of the body. By working these areas, imbalances are identified and the body's own natural healing process is triggered.
Reflexology is wonderful at promoting relaxation, releasing tension, improving sleep, improving mood and increasing wellbeing.
I use a wide range of reflexology techniques including traditional, Vertical Reflexology (VRT), linking and Gentle Touch Reflexology. Over time I have come to realise that a gentle treatment is just as powerful as a deep hard working treatment yet without the discomfort some people feel.
Is Reflexology suitable for me?
Yes, the great thing about Reflexology, is it can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between!
I have recently trained in in Gentle Touch Reflexology for Babies and Children and as a Gentle Touch Reflexology Baby and Child Reflexology Instructor. I have seen first hand the effect this gentle and wonderful therapy has had on my own children, it truly is wonderful.
What happens during a treatment?
Before the first treatment you will complete a medical and lifestyle consultation, which will be kept confidential. This will help me to establish if reflexology is right for you and tailor the treatment to your needs.
After I have examined your feet (or hands for hand reflexology), I may begin with some vertical techniques. You will then relax in a comfortable reclining chair or couch, where I will use a range of relaxation and pressure techniques to the feet, ankles and lower legs or hands. Sometimes you may feel slight areas of tenderness when pressed. This may be the result of an imbalance in the body, but will only last for a short time. Generally the experience should be deeply relaxing. Afterwards we will discuss the treatment.
How will I feel afterwards
You may experience any of the following:
• Very relaxed
• Your mood may have improved
• Increase in feeling of wellbeing
• Release of tension in your body
Anything I need to do afterwards?
Yes drink plenty of water on the day of the treatment and try and rest if possible. I may show you some hand reflexology points you can do at home and can be used between treatments to support you.
Your body will start to make positive changes, including the release and excretion of harmful toxins. Some people may therefore experience a mild headache, feeling tired, or needing to go to the toilet more often. These are normal reactions and should pass within 24-48 hours.
Frequency of treatments
Reflexology can be enjoyed:
- Weekly from 3-10 sessions to improve wellbeing or to focus on a particular issue. As the sessions progress the time between sessions can be lengthened. This will be discussed with you prior to commencing sessions.
- Bi-weekly or monthly to de-stress and have some me time or as a maintenance treatment
- As a one off treatment such as a birthday present, gift, total destress hour
